ClubSoft

ClubSoft
AMSlink has finally been given the axe. We’re happy about that–the software was never that stellar, and the vision it had was silly (a facebook for clubs? why do they when facebook already exists, and you wont be able to compete?). Here’s what the AMS could uniquely provide to its constituent clubs.
OnlineTreasurer
There’s auditing requirements, and proof-of-purchase accountability requirements that the AMS has, but that doesn’t mean the workflow can’t be integrated with the net. For instance, a simple notification of when a cheque has been printed and is ready for pickup (or has been picked up) would be great information for treasurer’s to have.
PayAMS
An online system for giving money to clubs. It seems obvious, and it’s possible to do. Suddenly, club recruitment is 24/7, and clubs days becomes much more than a “oh my god join my club this is your only chance” event.
OpenAMS
What’s going on in the SUB today? What neat projects are going on around the executive and council tables? Where can I find out more about Minischool? All of this data already exists within the AMS, be it through Class (the bookings system), minutes, or informational pamplets, but almost all of this information is completely inaccessible. Not because it’s not out there, but because it’s in formats that are inconsistent and non-web-standard. Lets see some more csvs and RSS feeds!
MemberManage
Do you know how you officially join a club? You pay your money and you physically write down your information on a piece of paper. Do you know how many forms you fill out to become a student at UBC? Last I checked, zero. That’s absurd, and forces every club to come up with its own database solution to manage club membership. This also then becomes a nightmare for SAC, who at times needs to know how many members clubs have.
What other applications would be useful?

AMSlink has finally been given the axe. We’re happy about that–the software was never that stellar, and the vision it had was silly. Instead of offering a one-size-fits all solution, here are some applications that the AMS could uniquely provide to its constituent clubs.

Suddenly, club recruitment is 24/7, and clubs days becomes less of a “oh my god join my club this is your only chance” event, and more of a celebration of students organizing.

OpenAMS

What’s going on in the SUB today? What neat projects are going on around the executive and council tables? Where can I find out more about Minischool? All of this data already exists within the AMS, be it through Class (the bookings system), minutes, or informational pamplets, but almost all of this information is completely inaccessible. Not because it’s not out there, but because it’s in formats that are inconsistent and non-web-standard (if on the web at all). Lets see some more csvs and RSS feeds! It can be done!
