Olympic Opportunities

No, this is not going to be one of those posts that makes the traffic spike and the comments section to light up in flames. I’ll try and fit one of those in before the end of the night, but for now, I’d like to say that it’s been great blogging today, and it’s exciting to know that we are doing very well in terms of fundraising. We’ve raised about $560 to this point, and are still gunning for more. Please remember to PLEDGE!

Recently, I was sent some information from Homes for the Games, a non profit group that “was started by a group of community-minded professionals”, which is one of those generic phrases that could really mean anything, but I think their premise is pretty cool.

Basically, they help provide housing to out of towners coming in for the games, and profit-split to help raise money to help the city’s homeless. To quote them:

Thousands of visitors, including the families of international athletes, are in need of affordable accommodation for the 2010 Olympic Games. At the same time, Vancouver homeowners are looking for a way to share in the spirit of the games.

Home for the Games is a non-profit initiative that will bring these two groups together to foster friendship and generosity, and raise funds to help tackle homelessness in Vancouver.

It should be noted that this is one of the few ways that you can become involved in the Olympics now – the volunteer spots are filled up, and while I suppose you can still sign up to not be a torch bearer, you might find this to be an interesting experiance. Plus, it makes you money! What could be better than that.
