The Gallery Brewpub

AMS Brew PubThe most exciting prospect of the new SUB is the possibility of an on campus brewpub. Think of the possiblities. If the AMS had its own brewery, not only would the beers be cheapest, but we could set up a production program for clubs to make their own brews too. For instance:

  • Ski and Board Alpine Ale
  • CVC Crash Caffeinated Ale
  • SUS Ethanol
  • The Radical Beer
  • Varsity Outdoors Club Protein-Packed Jello Shooters
  • Liver Club non-alcoholic Stout

We need David Suzuki to come back and declare, “What this campus needs is a brewpub”, and we will make it happen.

The GSS considered making Koerner’s into a brewpub a little while ago, but concluded that the scale wasn’t large enough to make setting up its own brewery feasible. I assume the start-up costs would be pretty high. You’d have to be sure you’re selling a lot of beer for a long time to make the economics work – certainly a possibility on a university campus, but not necessarily a slam dunk either.
