the sun also rises

As opposed to us, who never went to sleep. This has been a kind of surreal day – from my half asleep incoherent musings about Soviet spies, to blogging on break in another city, to the return home where the smoke blowing out to sea transformed the dusk sky to a brilliant orange.

We travelled (possibly losing my keys on the way – cross your fingers) to UbysseyHaus (Why does everyone use Haus? Is German the new ‘it’ language?) to watch the fireworks and eat cake.

My depth perception is nearly giving out, seeing as how I’ve had about 3 hours of sleep since Friday at 10. Work tomorrow is going to be a treat, but I’m rather satisfied with our fundraising numbers, so I guess I have you all to thank for making this worthwhile.

The sun is starting to come up. From the cafe we’re in, you can see down into Gastown. This place is a bit surreal as all get out – painted white walls and very minimalist or modern artwork on the walls. The one that I’ve been staring at for the past couple of hours is a picture of a gray building (think Buchanan Tower) against a gray sky. It’s really uplifting.

This has been something. Thanks so much.
